Diabetes insipidusDiabetes insipidus is rare but very dangerous disease. It occurs equally in both male and female. Diabetes insipidus is not a hereditary disease (such as ordinary diabetes) and more often it is acquired. There is although a number of hereditary diseases that becomes a part of the complete clinical picture of this disease. Difficulties in identifying of this type of diabetes are because it is diagnosed in humans that are most cases over the age of twenty years and generally because this disease is hidden.

Medicine knows several types of diabetes insipidus: true (or neuro-hormonal), idiopathic (or hereditary) and symptomatic (still ongoing and other diseases). This diabetes can be of infectious, traumatic and tumor origin. However, sometimes it has unknown etiology and, when it is not possible to determine the cause of its appearance.

Causes and consequences of the disease are in the plane of neuroendocrine abnormalities. The biggest and most noticeable violation of organism appears because of internal a failure in the body, and in this case body has lack it can’t uptake such hormone as vasopressin. This is antidiuretic hormone that regulates various body fluids (to maintain water balance) and it is produced in the hypothalamus. When diabetes insipidus is presented in organism lack of vasopressin causes failure or inability of the kidneys to respond to it manifests itself in a way of inability of the genitourinary system to retain fluids. That is why it appears as a lack of water and disturbances and changes in electrolyte balance in the whole water system of body, which is why general and dehydration happens.

One of the characteristic signs of diabetes insipidus, unlike diabetes mellitus, is the increased production of urine and uncontrollable thirst of patient. If not promptly diagnosed and treated, the disease, attacking the strongest dysfunction internal body systems: gastrointestinal, central nervous, urinary, cardiovascular and other important functional systems. Establishing of causes of diabetes insipidus is a key focus in the success of treatment and the slowing down of the disease. Doctors use a variety of methods of diagnosis and verification - a detailed analysis of blood and urine rehydratation tests, administration of drugs hormone - vasopressin, and sodium chloride, and other medical products in treatment of this disease.

Diabetes insipidus, despite its prevalence is increasingly seen in medical practice. So it is important to listen to your body, to monitor health condition and in case of the slightest suspicion to consult specialists, in order to avoid appearance or development of the disease.
